5 Du’as For Children To Memorize

duaOne of the best ways to protect children is to always make du’a for them, recite Quran on them and remind them to always rely on Allah through making duas and reciting duas at their prescribed times and moments. As soon as they start to talk and understand,  it is wise to teach our children the basmalah, isti’adah (seeking refuge with Allah from the shaytan) and simple du’as. Children as young as two years old can memorize many simple du’as because their minds are fresh and hungry for knowledge. By the time they are seven and older, you can explain to them the meaning and they will always use the du’as they learned throughout their lives, InshaaAllah

Most of the du’as I know are the du’as that my dear mother taught me when I was young and I recite those same du’as every day as an adult now! Imagine the ajar (rewards) that my mother is accumulating for every time I make those du’as?  To one day reap the rewards of teaching our children and for their protection, we should strive to teach our kids du’as because du’a is the “weapon of the believers.”

Even though there are hundreds of du’as to learn, we should not overwhelm children. Aim to teach your child/children what you think is simple in the beginning. Children actually find it interesting and fun to learn a new du’a everyday.

Here are 5 du’as that may be easy for children to learn and memorize, In shaa Allah.

1. When going out of the home: Bismilaah, Tawakaltu ‘alallaahi, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaah (In the name of Allah, I have placed my trust in Allah, there is no might and no power except by Allah).

2. When waking from sleep: Alhamdulilaahil-lathee ahyaanaa ba’ada maa  amaatanaa wa’ilayhin-nushoor (Praise is to Allah who gives us life after He has caused us to die and to Him is the return.

3. Before entering the bathroom: Bismilaah, Allaahuma inee a’oothu bika minal-khubthi walkhabaaith (In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek protection in You evil and from the male and female devils. And when leaving the bathroom: Ghufraanak (Your Forgiveness).

4. Du’a to say in the mornings and evening: “A’oothu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min sharri maa khalaq (I seek refuge in the Perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

5. Before sleeping: Bisimika Allaahuma ‘amootu wa’ahyaa (In your Name, O Allah, I die and I live.

Along with the above du’as, and many more, children can also learn the three last suras of the Quran and sura Al-Fatiha because those suras are short and fairly easy to memorize and recite as well. And while the last suras are short and easy, surah sura Al-Ikhlas alone has too many benefits to count. In one hadith, the Prophet, alayhi salam, said that it is one third of the Quran. Same goes for sura Al-Fatiha. The benefits and virtues of it are countless! Alhamdulilah that Allah has made us Muslims and has given us a clear way of life. May Allah protect all children from all evil. Allahuma Aamin.
